![]() ![]() The notion that any college athlete, even an immature teenager, would think it’s a good idea to repeatedly say “(Expletive) Akron” on a public video shows a tremendous lack of judgement and discipline.īut a suspension from a win-or-go-home postseason game does not seem like a fitting punishment. In this case, the Kent State players just put it out there themselves because they've grown up in a social media world where showing off and revealing every thought that comes into their heads is rewarded with positive feedback. But it wasn’t meant to be heard outside that locker room, and it showed poor judgement by Thibodeaux to potentially expose his coach to criticism. One example last football season was Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux going on Instagram live after the Washington game and broadcasting coach Mario Cristobal to the world saying, “Those (expletive) guys right there, they represent everything that’s wrong with football.”Īuthentic? Sure it was. It’s been a bit of a trend in recent years for some athletes to live stream from the locker room after big wins, which can show us some wonderfully candid moments of dancing and camaraderie that we’d never otherwise see.īut it can also be a total invasion of privacy and unknowingly expose coaches or players saying things they wouldn’t want to be public. That includes “profane, vulgar, threatening, obscene or derogatory remarks” directed to an opponent. Conference USA commissioner Judy MacLeod, who chairs the Division I men’s basketball oversight committee, sent a memo to all athletics directors and coaches in November urging schools and conferences to “take strong action in response to any form of misconduct and/or unsportsmanlike behavior” during the season. Sure, the NCAA has rules about sportsmanship and a committee that could intervene in these types of situations. On the scale of offensive things you see on social media every day, this seems fairly innocent. ![]() It was a handful of college kids hyped about making the finals of their conference tournament talking about how much they dislike an in-state rival. You would not want your 10-year old to see it or emulate it.īut there were no threats made, no homophobic language used. Yes, there were words used that might make school presidents blush. ![]() Besides being profane and generally in poor taste, it’s objectively stupid to talk trash on social media about an opponent you’re playing the next day.īut ultimately, that’s all it is: Trash talk. Maybe time can’t heal all wounds after all.Kent State guard Malique Jacobs (2) was suspended for the first half of the MAC title game against Akron. It has been 9 whole years since the player’s move. They don’t come as petty as Kevin Garnett anymore, that’s for sure. As the clock ticked down, the Houston social media team tweeted. KG just cropped Ray Allen out on his IG story□ /8LJIx33QLo Fast forward to yesterday, where the Houston Rockets closed out their their arch-rivals, the Dallas Mavericks, in five games. And frankly, it seems that emotion has continued over to this day with his most recent activity on social media. And with there being some turmoil within the team as well at the time, the man decided to jump ship to the Celtic’s biggest rivals at the time, the Miami Heat. However, at one point, Allen realized that the Celtics won’t be winning any more championships. Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett were teammates from 2007 to 2012 and were even extremely close as friends. Kevin Garnett crops Ray Allen out of a photo that originally featured both of them, alongside Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondoįor those that don’t know what’s happening here, let us explain.
